- 1 tablespoon chipotle chili powder see notes
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- ½ teaspoon salt optional
Make chipotle powder by grinding 1-2 whole chipotle peppers or 1 ½ tablespoons of chipotle chili flakes.
Add all the ingredients to a dry, airtight container and shake to mix.
Taste and adjust the spices as desired.
Makes 4 tablespoons.
Label and store in a cool, dry place.
- After testing, 1 chipotle pepper yielded 2 heaping teaspoons of ground chipotle powder, and 1 tablespoon of chipotle chili flakes yielded 2 ¾ teaspoons of chipotle powder.
- This recipe was developed using regular, Mediterranean-style oregano. Mexican oregano is stronger, so I recommend starting with ½ - ¾ teaspoon.
- Label chipotle seasoning with the date and particulars like salt-free or super-hot.
