Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Super simple - only three pantry ingredients.
- Oil‑free and vegan - the natural sesame oil in tahini gives this dressing creaminess and body.
- Customizable - swap smoky or BBQ sriracha for flavor variety.
Ingredients and Notes

- Tahini. Choose pure sesame seed paste with no added oils or make creamy tahini using a high-speed blender. The best substitute is sunflower seed paste.
- Lemon juice. Use fresh lemons or use convenient bottled juice.
- Sriracha. Many kinds of sriracha are vegan and gluten-free. Read the labels to be sure. You can use other chili pastes, including Sambal Oelek, if you have a favorite.

Recipe Variations
For a ‘swicy’ (sweet and spicy) dressing, add 2 or more teaspoons of maple syrup, date paste, or another liquid sweetener.

How to Make Sriracha Dressing

Whisk the tahini and lemon juice until smooth, then add the sriracha, taste, and add more if desired.
Pro Tips
- As a rule, use twice as much lemon juice as tahini. It may thicken as you stir or as the dressing sits. Add a little water or more lemon juice if needed.
- When adding spicy ingredients, follow my ‘salt rule’ - start with a little, you can always add more.
Serving Suggestions

I originally used this dressing for a simple cabbage slaw to accompany vegan sloppy joes. It’s still one of my favorites. Pair it with sheet pan chickpea shawarma, give your walnut and lentil tacos a flavor twist, or add a spicy touch to Middle Eastern chickpea and bulgur salad.
Frequently Asked Questions
Store sriracha tahini dressing in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. Stir it before serving. Tahini thickens after chilling, so add a little lemon juice or water before serving it.
I don't recommend freezing tahini sauce. The cold temperature creates a lot of moisture, diluting the flavor.
Sriracha, in general, is gluten-free. The combination of chilies, vinegar, sugar, and other spices in most sriracha recipes and commercial brands contains no gluten. Always check the labels to see that it is certified gluten-free.
Many brands of sriracha are vegan; however, I recommend checking the labels. Sugar, the sweetener in many sriracha recipes, is not always vegan. How sugar is processed determines its status as vegan.
